The Latest Kids' Sayings

8/25/15
Garrett likes to give me two kisses on the cheek, two nuzzles on the nose, and two hugs before he goes to bed. His night is just not complete without that exact combination.

Garrett likes to keep charts…he just made one today to cover the 7 days leading up to 6 road trips, with an x in each square.

Wyatt prayed tonight that he would have such a good day tomorrow that he would start shining like a star.

Wade is so helpful. He volunteered to bring honey up from the basement for me when he saw we were running low…and he did!

8/29/15
Garrett has rigged up a “garage door” for his wheelbarrow “truck” out on the deck using the lid for the play table, a big spring that was left over from construction at the lake, a broom handle and other things (???). It opens and closes and he has a special way of locking it.

10/23/15
Several times lately, Wade has said that when he gets hurt, he just slaps his forehead and says, “Happy!” and he feels better.

Wade helps me make breakfast on many mornings. Lately he has been kissing and hugging the eggs before he gives them to me. J Today he told me, “I’m going to do something lovely to this egg.” And then he gave it a kiss and a long rocking hug.

Wyatt likes to “huddle buddle” up to me when he’s cold.

Garrett is fascinated with the weather radio right now, and is elated that he discovered that he can put batteries in his CD player and take it anywhere he wants to. Wyatt is pretty excited about that, too.

Wade has been styling his hair in the bathroom with water, and the result is pretty bed-head cool.

11/18/15
Wyatt says he loves math: “I don’t like Math. I LOVE it!” He even asked to watch the Math-U-See DVD on road trips!

Garrett has been telling me lately how much he loves us. We’re the best parents in the whole world, and he can’t even explain how much he loves us.

12/17/15
Wade, wanting to pour his smoothie into a cup of water in the since to “do magic”: Mama, can I do magic? It doesn’t cost any money so can I do magic?”

Wade, typing on a blank document on the computer: “Mama, I wrote about how you can have a lot of dates with daddy.”

1/5/16
The things a boy mom hears...today Garrett came in from playing outside in the snowy yard, and asked if he could try to melt the ice in his wheelbarrow " truck" by electrocuting it with a positive charge with a 9 volt battery. He reassured me it wouldn't be with a positive AND negative charge, so it would be safe. This is more than I know about electrocuting things...."Ask Daddy when he gets home" seemed like the safest answer!

1/5/16
Wyatt knocked my socks off today! I asked him to clean up his room during quiet time. It was a complete wreck! When I opened the door up at the end of quiet time, it was completely clean and he was on the floor picking up little bits of paper to throw away!! It was AMAZING. Great job, Wyatt!

Wyatt has been very sad and nostalgic about 2015 ending. He kept saying yesterday how sad he was and that 2015 is DEAD.

Along the same lines, he was crying in bed the other night remembering his crib and missing it. Dear heart…

1/17/15
Wade, while I’m getting a band aid for his finger: “Home sweet home. Mommy sweet home.”

2/9/16
Garrett, after watching the Super Bowl, told me that it was one of the best days of his life…that it was equal to getting a smart phone for Christmas, getting a new blanket, or going out to play in freshly fallen snow. J

We went to Skate City with some homeschool groups today, and both Garrett and Wyatt were so excited to be there. They kept coming over to the glass and smiling at me. Wyatt kept motioning “I love you” with his hands, and Garrett told me this was one of the best experiences of his life.

Wade has been loving to hide from me when I come in to read at nap or bedtime. He hides behind the rocking chair or under the slide and is absolutely delighted to have me find him finally!

2/11/16
At the National Center for Atmospheric Research we went on an interpretive hike behind the building. The boys loved climbing the rocks. Wyatt said, “Wyatt + Rocks = Climb!”

2/12/16
During school, I asked Wade what shape a circle was and he said, “hug!”

2/19/16
Walking to the lake today, we crossed the street before the corner, to avoid the blind corner ahead, and Wade said in an admonishing voice, “This is J-Walking!”

Wyatt” “Mom, Ramona is like a roaring fire!”

2/20/16
Last Saturday I made French toast instead of our usual Jim’s Fluffy Pancakes. Today Wade told me with his brows furrowed, “Last Saturday you made French toast. But the PROPER thing you’re supposed to make is pancakes.”

2/25/16
I gave Wyatt a tortilla with butter,  Nutella, and cinnamon sugar on it and he said in a dreamy voice, “I’m going to give these to my kids every once in a while because I want them to know what I had when I was little.”

3/1/16
Wade, after giving me a loud kiss on the cheek: “That sounds weird. Kind of like a robot activating.”

Fall Fun, Part 3

We had a few visits from a cute kitten. The boys were enthralled. I couldn't help but put a bit of milk out for him!

After Jim got back from a conference, it was like Christmas with all of the gimcracks he brought back for the boys!

Garrett got very interested in electronics - the weather radio, our old cell phone, and cameras! Him taking a picture of me taking a picture. ;) (Wait, on closer inspection, I think that's a couple of flashlights!)

We made homemade bread when we studied that Jesus is the Bread of Life. It took me back to the days growing up when we had Swiss girls staying with us and they taught us how to make beautiful braided bread. So I braided ours. :)

Wade blow drying his hair as wacky as possible.

Jim was Bob Ross for his work Halloween party! Pretty good costume! He got 3rd place.

Wade was a fireman for Halloween, and Garrett and Wyatt had their hearts set on being a washer and dryer, so I made them costumes. They got lots of surprised reactions and everyone loved it.

Some of Garrett's "prototypes"

We had a fun night at Boondocks when Wyatt completed a goal! The boys loved the bumper cars and playing games for tickets.

Very excited about their prizes!

School time: Wade playing with his Surprise Time bin of black beans and containers. He does great putting it all away when he's done!

We studied taste with Wyatt, and he tasted a variety of things: sweet, sour, salty, etc.

We went to the homeschool day at the Aquarium. G & Wy went to a class while Wade and I quickly took a tour together, and then we did it again with them. They were especially interested in the tunnel with the sharks, stingrays, and fish swimming around us, and the octopus.

Petting the stingrays was really fun!

Saturday morning TV is a huge deal to them. They bring their homemade box eating tables down and watch kids shows until I come down and make Jim's Fluffy Pancakes. A highlight of their week!

Wade says, "Say cheese!" ;)

Wyatt's homemade ... jumpsuit? Overalls? Sometimes it has a "parachute" on the back. :)

Before we left for Thanksgiving in Indiana, I shared my stuffing recipe on the blog. The blog has been taking up a lot of time and energy! It's work, it's fun, and it does inspire me to try new things. I'm enjoying using my new camera, and being creative and artistic. I love being able to help and encourage people on the diet.

Fall Fun, Part 2

We had a very interesting visit to Four Mile Park with Mom and Dad.

Seeing an old pump...

In a one room school house...

This is how they used to do the laundry, kids...

Old stables...

An old covered wagon. It was narrower than I expected.

An old stagecoach...

Trying their hand at the plow...

Inside a teepee..

We also had fun getting pumpkins with Mom and Dad.

School: Learning to tie a bow with my old page from when I was in Kindergarten homeschool!

A-A-Apple!

Science experiment with yeast. We put the bottle (with a balloon on it) in the pantry to see what it would do).

The balloon puffed up fast!

Garrett wrote to Anders about it.

Wade making a card for someone.

Fall Fun Part One

The first day we dropped G & Wy off at Wednesday school, Wade and I had a lovely, quiet walk around the lake. He picked flowers and gave them to me.

We bought our house in September! First on the list of things to do: rip up the carpet in the bathroom!

The boys and I enjoyed the step back in history at a reenactment of the colonial time period. The boys got to work with wood and dip candles. We saw a war reenactment, saw "George Washington" speak, and bought them toy guns.

Lighting the candles when we got home.

We picked up Grandma the next day or so! It was great having her and Grandpa visit. We worked like crazy on our new food blog, went to Smashburger, took walks, visited 5 Mile Park, and went on the Georgetown Loop Railroad...

Fun times at Applebee's after picking Gpa up from the airport.

Mom made Wyatt a special cake for his 6th birthday! It was wonderful having them here to help celebrate.

Wyatt was thrilled with his new skates!

We watched Garrett at soccer practice.
