Around The House This Winter

When we got back from Christmas, the window guys came out and put in all new windows!!

Wyatt finished his Kindergarten Hooked on Phonics! Yay Wyatt!

I did a lot of painting...with some little helpers.

Jim took off the mantel and one layer of brick to paint it white and lower the mantel so the TV would fit above it.

I finished this family room wall! Looking at it makes me happy. :) (There is now a white "B" in the upper left corner.)

Science experiments, goggles and all...

Mr. Ten Shirts made an appearance (followed by Mr. Eleven Shirts *Wyatt* a few days later)

Wyatt put the whole puzzle together!

One of Wyatt's first independent writing projects!

Wyatt got Snap Circuits and was super excited. Garrett showed him how to do things on it. It's handy to have an older brother who can read and has done this before!

The boys had fun making Keva block creations.

Happy Wade going out into the snow.

We started the process of organizing rooms so I could paint and decorate. Garrett's newly cleaned room!

Wyatt's clean room!

Wyatt made a sword and sheath.

So did Wade. Tough guys!

Painting on a cold day...

On a warmish day we made it up to the National Center for Atomospheric Research, and had a great time learning about weather!

The cloud machine was a big hit!

There was an interpretive hike with beautiful views. We got locked out of the building but worked together to figure out the way back in!

The lightning tube was pretty neat!

Valentine's Day was fun with a fire in the fireplace and some special treats.

We found these whack-a-packs at the Dollar Tree, and they were so fun. Little balloons that inflate when they are whacked.

Garrett made a "laptop" with pages to insert for different screens.

We made chocolate playdough using cocoa powder in the recipe. The boys played with it for a long time!

Cali Christmas, Part 3

Even though we were all sick, my parents graciously watched the boys for 3 nights so we could have our anniversary get-away! It was a-mazing to have that much time together and I am so grateful! The boys had a great time at Camp Grandma & Grandpa while we spent time in Solvang and San Luis Obispo.

Wyatt was not happy to see us go, but he still had a great time.

Gorgeous drive up the coast!

First stop: Solvang! We drove by Jim's grandparents' old house.

And we enjoyed walking around the town and enjoying the quaint feel.

Jim went to a few shops that were his good ol' favorites and picking up some treats.

Next morning we stopped at Olsen's bakery and Jim got to chat with the owner and an old family friend in the back. And of course picked up some kringle and special bread.

We headed up the coast and stopped at an old college haunt, Klondike's Pizza.

Then we headed to Avila Beach and enjoyed the gorgeous scenery.

We had to see the Madonna Inn - so PINK! :)

Then over to Morro Rock...

At Spooner's Cove we enjoyed the beautiful views, rocks, and sounds of the waves.

That night it was the Apple Farm Inn for dinner!

I was able to get a great hamburger, with fruit and tea. Yum!

The next day we walked around SLO and in the evening saw Star Wars at the theatre in Arroyo Grande.

We also got to drive up to where Jim used to hang out and help, at Webb's place. He wasn't there but Jim knew we would be welcome to walk around so he showed me around.

Jim had to get pizza at Woodstock's and play a little pin ball!

And what is a visit to SLO without a walk down Gum Alley??

We got to stop and see the monarch butterflies all over the trees in Arroyo Grande - amazing!

It was fun to mail some Olsen's kringle to the fam back in Indiana.

The sun set on a wonderful trip together...

We missed the boys and were glad to get back and enjoy time with them again!

And then all too soon it was time to say goodbye...

What a packed, wonderful trip seeing many loved ones and old haunts!
